Runs, Pulls & Promotions!
Battalion update as at 14 Oct 08

Over the last couple of weeks the Battalion have been very busy with a couple of exercises, adventure training and specialised courses but we still found the time to take part in other activities from Athletics to Sports Days.

Athletics - the running bit.
The Battalion Athletics Team are doing really well at the moment, see below for information received from the Regimental Sergeant Major, WO1 Johnson.

The Coldstream Guards Athletics Team has enjoyed great success recently during a series of events. On the 24th September the Battalion hosted the GOC London DiThe McPherson brothersstrict’s Sports Day, which saw a four man relay team compete in a 1.5 mile road-relay event. The team, ably led by Mr Wills and consisting of Drummer McPherson from the Corps of Drums and Gdsm Perkins and Sergeant Fairbrother from No.1 Company stormed home to a resounding victory and took the event trophy along with individual winners medals. The very next day, ten members of the team ran in the RAF Benson 7 Mile Road Race Championships and an all Guardsman first four resulted in the team picking up third place overall, with more individual trophies all round. The first four over the line at RAF Benson were Gdsm Perkins (1 Coy), Gdsm Pearson (2 Coy) and the McPherson brothers from the Drums. The remaining Coldstreamers all came home in good time finishing in the top half of the field as they did at Honington a fortnight before. The McPherson brothers are shown with their trophies from the 48 hours of intense competition.

On Sunday 12 October, five Coldstreamers went into London to conduct the civilian O2 Half Marathon. In a huge race of 12,500 competitors, the Coldstreamers, all in Coldstream running strip, produced outstanding performances with Gdsm Pearson and the McPherson brothers finishing in the top 400. Gdsm James and Drummer Budd also took part finishing well up the field. They travelled to and from the event in combats and achieved a good PR result as part of the event.

All in all, the Coldstream Guards Athletics Team is really starting to make an impact with some talented runners emerging. Our next test will be the Army Cross Country Relays on Wednesday 22nd October. Any members of the regiment who are interested in joining the team should speak direct to the Regimental Sergeant Major or Recce Platoon Commander.

GOC Sports Day - the pulling bit.

Even through the Battalion were split to the four winds on exercises and training, they still found enough 'volunteers' to represent the Battalion in the GOC Sports Day.  Please see images from this event below:

The Drill Course - the promotions bit.

Some avid viewers of ShinyCapstar will remember that we briefly covered the Battalion 'Pre' Drill Course a few months ago.  Well, some of these lucky individuals completed the course and the Commanding Officer (Lt Col TW Gray) surprised these individuals on the ranges by presenting them their chevrons - well done laddos!
