BATTALION UPDATE
(Rhinos, Bushfires, Booklets, Baby Coldstreamers, April
Fools & OUTSTANDING COURAGE!)
Thu 21st

DID YOU KNOW:
the
Spring Edition of the Newsletter has been uploaded
7 COMPANY - IT'S
NOT ALL DRILL - DRILL - DRILL!
Although Number 7 Company is our incremental Company
based in London carrying out public and ceremonial
duties, they also find time to play hard. Recently
they have just returned from a six week training package
in Kenya, and before that did a little skiing!
As you can see from the Images from their recent
adventures, most people 'pay money' for this - we get
paid to do it!

A little about 7 Company:
Number 7
Company is an incremental company. It operates
independent from the 1st Battalion and is based in
London; it carries the Colours of the 2nd Battalion
Coldstream Guards. One of the main roles for Number 7
Company is to conduct ceremonial Public duties. These
could include Queens Guards, Trooping the Colour, Guards
of Honour for Foreign Dignitaries, State opening of
Parliament and The Garter Service at Windsor Castle
amongst other events.
Most soldiers who serve in Number 7 Company are
volunteers from the 1st Battalion. Postings to the
Company usually last no longer than 2 years. Number 7
Company, like the Battalion offers a varied life, whilst
it is true that a lot of the time will be spent in the
Public eye, there will always be time to get away on
overseas exercises and exciting adventure training.
Recently the Company has returned from a six week
exercise and adventure training package in Kenya.
In 7 Company, like the Battalion, the opportunities for
individual development are plenty. Career and
educational courses are available to all. At the time of
publication, every single soldier in 7 Company has a
valid driving license, the majority having learnt to
drive whilst serving in the Company. This winter the
whole Company deployed to France for ski camp.

COLDSTREAM
GUARDS - BOOKLETS!

The Regimental Recruiting Team have just finished
designing and publishing the new Recruiting Booklet that
will be available to potential Coldstreamers from
Recruiting Offices around the Country.
We have been lucky enough to receive the first copy to
place online (with great thanks to the hero in the RRT),
of this keepsake of the Coldstream Guards. Full of
useful information, interviews with Coldstreamers and great images of life
wearing the capbadge.
To view the booklet, click on the digital
images of the book below (they will then enlarge).

ANOTHER POTENTIAL COLDSTREAMER?
ShinyCapstar was recently contact by Mrs Jayne Freeman
who explained that she and her son, Isaac - 28 months,
had recently paid a visit to London, at the same time of
'Black Weekend' ...... dressed as a Guardsman!
You can see images of Isaac with members of our Sister
Regiment (the Grenadier Guards) below.

NOTE: He may be stood next to a Grenadier but has
already showed an interest in a Red Plume!

APRIL FOOL!
Soldier Magazine recently published an article regarding
the 're-branding' of the Guards which stirred up a
hornets nest.
Extract from Soldier Magazine:
WITH a costly
campaign in Afghanistan and millions of pounds being
invested in new equipment, you could be forgiven for
questioning why the Government wanted the MoD to cut its
robe according to the proverbial cloth.
And why, according to our exclusive story last month,
the department planned to do so by lopping a few buttons
off the Guards’ uniforms.
Thankfully for lovers of military tradition, the MoD has
never considered alterations to the centuries of history
associated with the soldiers’ tunics, even given the
difficult economic times. The news was a figment of our
imagination, as was our dissenting veteran, Maj Vincent
Smythe-Ogilvy.
It even got a few member of our forum - you can see and
read more over on the forum here ...

after loosing the use of his legs in a rocket attack in
Basra. He was was told he would never walk
