BATTALION NEWS (Snow,
Blue Shorts & lots of Drill!)
Thursday 26th February
2009
.jpg)
The Coldstream Guards have now moved fully into
Mons Barracks, Aldershot
(see address change) and have
been busy getting orientated into the 1 Brigade Style of
things.
The Battalion moved into the new location a few weeks
ago swapping Barracks with the Irish Guards who
are now located in Victoria Barracks, Windsor.
All single (and living in personnel) now have individual
bunks in New Mons, with the Sergeants' and Officers'
Mess having Z type accommodation (individual toilets and
showers in each bunk).
AN ALL WHITE
ALDERSHOT:
All will be aware of the snow that hit the country a few
weeks ago and Mons Barracks was also hit with snow
drifts that would normally turn away a US Marine. What
did Coldstreamers do when all roads in barracks were
covered in snow making it hard to move in vehicles?
…………….. they improvised!
.jpg)
There were no snow ploughs to clear roads and most of
the grit was confiscated by the Provo Sgt to lay down
outside the Guardroom so he didn’t slip. The MT in their
wisdom decided that improvisation was the thing to do
and hooked up a large steel pallet (with sides) to a
land-rover and asked for volunteers to come along for
the ride!
Before the ‘Health and Safety Police’ e-mail in and
explain just how dangerous something like this could be
please remember that the vehicle was travelling at
‘snail pace’ and let’s face it, because of this
excellent thinking roads were cleared in barracks in a
morning – thus avoiding any other incidents that could
have happened.
After the snow had cleared the next major event that
everybody looked forward to was Commanding Officers PT.
As the Coldstream Guards had taken on a fantastic new
Barracks it would be a shame to waste such a valuable
drill-square so the Commanding Officers’ PT Parade was
back on the cards.
The first PT Session of Aldershot had all members of the
Battalion parade in Army PT Shorts, brown shirts and
Army daps at the ready. Most members of the Battalion
departed to carry out their annual PT Tests, and those
that were sick took advantage of having a Olympic sized
swimming pool next to camp.
Next up was the Commanding Officers Form Up ………. see
here for more details and LOADS of images from the
parade.

STATUE SELLS:
A fantastic Coldstream Statue was recently auctioned,
all money raised will go to the LCpl Wiggins Appeal.
The auction ended by Lance Reah (former 2nd Battalion /
3 Coy) winning the statue with a bid of ONE THOUSAND
POUNDS (£1,000).
On behalf of the Commanding Officer and all members of
the Regiment we would like to thank all those that took
part in this auction, with particular thanks going to
Lance Reah for his outstanding bid,
for more info on the bids and
auction.
Thank you to everyone who has helped in the aim to raise
funds for the 'Wiggy Appeal'. The target was
reached and we have a full account with images available
