1756-63
Once again, Britain was at
war with France, and the Regiment’s first involvement in this campaign was when
the 1st Battalion was part of another Guards Brigade which raided the
French coast several times in 1758.
In July 1760, the 2nd
Battalion embarked for Germany with a Guards Brigade to take part in operations
against the French. Commanded by the Marquis of Granby, this campaign was a
series of small engagements rather than large decisive battles. Notable
engagements were the battle of Wilhelmsthal in June 1762, and the engagement at
the Castle of Amoeneburg in September, which proved to be the last engagement of
the campaign.
The Battalion marched
through Holland to Williamstadt. There they embarked for Yarmouth, landing in
1763.
