LILLE BARRACKS - BLOCK OPENINGS

The 15th of December 2004 saw three new accommodation blocks opened in Lille Barracks, Aldershot.  The blocks are of the new 'Z' type accommodation where individuals are housed with their own Showers etc, the future accommodation for all soldiers!

A total of three blocks were opened.


Macdonell Block

The block is to accommodate SP Coy members.



The inscription on the plaque reads:

"This building was opened by
Lieutenant Colonel N B Henderson
Commanding Officer, 1st Battalion Coldstream Guards

on 15th December 2004

In Memory of

Lieutenant Colonel Sir James Macdonnell
2nd Battalion Coldstream Guards
Officer Commanding
2nd Battalion Coldstream Guards, Contingent in Defence of
Hougoumont Farm, Waterloo
18th June 1815"





Monck Block

The block is to accommodate SP Coy members



The inscription on the plaque reads:

This building was opened by

The Honourable George Monck

on 15th December 2004
in Memory of his Ancestor
George Monck, Duke of Albermarle

1st Colonel, Coldstream Guards
1650 - 1669





Graham Block

The block is to accommodate Sergeants Mess Members



The inscription on the plaque reads:

This building was opened by

Former Coldstream Sergeants Now Retired to the Royal Hospital, Chelsea

on 15th December 2004
In Memory of
Sergeant James Graham WM
2nd Battalion Coldstream Guards
"The Bravest Man in England"
Following His Actions in Closing The Gates
at Hougoumont Farm, Waterloo
