The 1st Battalion Coldstream Guards have now deployed for just over six months to IRAQ on Op Telic 6, returning at the beginning of November 05.  Coldstream Troops leaving Lille BarracksThe reason that the tour is 'just over' six months is because of acclimatisation which the Battalion must go through as soon as they arrive.  Things got off to a good start as most were delayed at South Serbey for about 8hrs before departing from Brize Norton.

Handover Takeover of 'The Shat'The Battalion have taken over from the Duke of Wellingtons Regiment and are stationed at 'The Shat' in Basrah, whilst Number One Company are just 'up country' working with 1 Staffords in Al Amarah.

The Battalion officially took over ‘The Shat’, a five star hotel before the war, and Tour at 12:00hrs on the 21st April 05.  The image shows the Handover/Take Over from The Duke of Wellington Regiment to the Coldstream Guards.  Lt Col P Lewis of the Duke of Wellington Regiment handing over to Lt Col N B Henderson.  In the Background - WO1 (RSM) Wilson of the Duke of Wellington Regiment handing over to WO1 (RSM) P Carr.

>> St George's Day '05

Meanwhile, back at Aldershot the Welfare Office activated ‘Operation Happy Meal’ a plan to organise as many events and functions as possible to relieve the stress and strain of their loved ones being away.

The first event was St George’s Day, taking place in the Toucan Club – Lille Barracks. This is a tradition that the Coldstream Guards celebrate no matter where we are and this day was no exception. The event was a great success attended by over 120, involving a small pageant to explain to all the children the story of St George defeating the dragon and rescuing the Kings Daughter. The Welfare Staff took this opportunity to get dressed into fancy dress costumes – although LSgt Ian Scholan had said months in advance that ‘he wanted to be the damsel in distress’!!! A children’s meal followed the pageant, then they were entertained by a puppet show and sing along. All in all, the event was a great success and it was great to see smiles on both adults and children’s faces.

A few images are shown below from St George's Day - Lille Barracks - Sat 23rd April 2005.

****PLEASE NOTE****
If you have objections of photographs of your children being displayed on this website please get in touch with the Welfare Office on the usual number. We will remove them asap

Future entertainment booked for dependants of Coldstream Guards are Children’s Discos, Sunday Lunches, trips to theme parks and that’s just June! Coldstream Dependants should by now have received flyers posted direct to them with confirmed dates but in the event of individuals not having received them they can contact the Coldstream Guards Welfare Office on the usual number.
