SITE UPDATE NEWS: 02 March 2009
1. FAREWELL to WO1 (RSM) & Mrs A Johnson:
The evening of Saturday the 28th February 2009 saw the Sergeants'
Mess say farewell to the 'Sarnt Major (WO1 RSM A Johnson) and his
good lady wife Claire.
The function was the first in Aldershot for the Sergeants' Mess
after recently moving from Windsor and the evening promised to dine
out the 'Sarnt Major in the style accustomed and befitting for the
Regimental Sergeant Major (RSM) of the Battalion .......

IT'S A YEAR SINCE THE SITE
WAS UPDATED (in it's look) - LETS HAVE A LOOK WHAT HAPPENED THEN......

1. HOME
PAGE: a
total redesign with easier navigation (I think?), and more stuff to
be added, but it now features direct RSS Feeds of the latest 'Army &
MOD News, plus a scroller that tells you the most popular links on
the site. Two new features of the front page will be updated on a
regular basis, 'In the Spotlight' and 'Site Feature' will be updated
on a regular basis just in case anyone misses something. Polls
have also been re-introduced, we'll see how these pan out. The
'Shout-box' has been dropped due to potential spam messages being
left.
2. REGIMENTAL HISTORY SECTION:
the
Regimental
History Section has been long due an update, not that we missed
anything the first time, just tidying up a little. The main
'Regimental
History' page has been updated (to look a little like a
newspaper - le me know what you think). From there, I kind of
got carried away and started updating various pages to the History
Section, including a re-vamped VC Section with added images, and
Medal Entitlements of each VC Winner. Obviously this section
alone is HUGE so please bear with it and keep checking back for
extra features, including ............................. 'The
Time-Lines'. I am working on two timeline projects, the first
being a pictorial timeline (see work in progress here), the second
being an interactive timeline of Coldstream Campaigns from 1970
(read more about this exciting project here).
3. THE
A to Z SECTION:
this section will be updated as time progresses. I was
e-mailed by someone ages ago asking about a particular article and
had to trawl through updates. I thought why not have an A t Z
of all things Coldstream and hyperlink frenzy!
4.
EASTER EGGS:
no this isn't a
ploy at getting some more choccy in April (I've had enough thanks),
but the terminology used for internet trap doors. I have
started introducing some secret links on the site (called Easter
Eggs) that will give you some information and images that no one
else will see!
5. PAST,
PRESENT & FUTURE:
a couple of pages I
am working on portraying a Coldstreamer at various stages.
6. A
NEW ICON:
I was messing about in Photoshop and created a new icon for
ShinyCapstar. Yeah, I know it's not very Web2.0 friendly but
come on ................ !
7. CRISP LOOK - CLEAN FEEL:
the look and feel
of ShinyCapstar will change over the next couple of weeks/months as
all pages will be filtered to the new template. I have to do
this manually to each page (copy and paste) as I am still using MS
Frontpage (booo hiss). Hopefully we will do away with those
irritating animations that were so popular at Shiny's birth and have
background image free pages. Before someone says it, yeah -
all this will probably be back in web fashion by the time I change
everything!
8. FEED
BACK:
ShinyCapstar is
still holding on .................. just! But
we need your
feedback so we can; a. pass it to those that require to see it and
post your remarks online and b. take your points onboard and
hopefully make things even better!
9. CELINE DION:
no she's not one of
my favourite artists, and no I'm not cracking up - yet! She
did, however, have a hit with the classic 'All By Myself', which
incidentally is ME, the Shinycapstar Team. Want to help, you
can by sending in images, stories, articles, scans - anything that
can take this site to a new level. We have a
YouTube account
for videos and the Gallery will soon be updated with some new and
improved software. Send anything onto us via the 'Contact
Page'
10. OP HERRICK 7:
as I write this
post there is only a few days until the Battalion are complete and
have returned to Windsor, with the Welcome Home Parade taking place
on the 26th April. I have just taken delivery of thousands of
images and videos (thanks to Lt Weddell) that will shortly be added
to galleries on the
Herrick Section
and made into short videos for the
YouTube Section.
