COLDSTREAM RESIDENTS SUPPORT COLDSTREAMERS IN
AFGHANISTAN.....
For those who know a little
about the Regimental History of the Coldstream Guards it
will not come as any surprise to know that 'Coldstream'
(a small town in Scotland) means SO MUCH more to the
Coldstream Guards than just sharing the same name.
Coldstreamers often pop up the A1 to visit Coldstream
which is steeped in Regimental History, trivia and very
nice people!
The Coldstream Guards are currently
serving in
Afghanistan so the townsfolk of Coldstream have been
organising some way to enable them to show support to
Coldstreamers in theatre. Please find below an
e-mail from Geoff (Coldstreamer) and his good lady
Annemarie, who have helped to organise something for the
Battalion in Afghanistan.

e-mail from: Geoff & Annemarie
Please find below an extract from the Berwickshire News
which is the newspaper that covers the Borders. We
thought you might like to post it up on ShinyCapstar. We
will of course keep you posted as to how the packing day
goes on Saturday 7th November.

We didn’t think we would get much support, but as soon
as we put the posters up we began receiving donations.
People in the town just want to support their Regiment
in anyway they can, and love getting news about how they
are doing.
We may even have the Cadets helping us on the packing
day and some of them are still Coldstream Guards Capped,
so that would be really nice. The children at the
primary school wanted to do Halloween things for the
soldiers, but the teachers explained that by the time
the parcels get there it will be Christmas! An example
of how to teach kids time and patience!!! (lol) The
local youth club is also doing something for the
parcels, so it is nice to see that all age ranges are
getting involved and it is bringing the town together.
A MESSAGE TO THE TOWN OF COLDSTREAM:
Of behalf of the Commanding Officer and all Ranks of the
1st Battalion Coldstream Guards, ShinyCapstar would like
to thank the townsfolk of Coldstream for their
outstanding contribution to making things a little more
comfortable over in Afghanistan. Lets also not
forget that a very special thank you must go to Geoff &
Annemarie and also to Ann Martinson, who without all
their hard work and dedication, this project would not
have evolved into the success it will no doubt become.
Thank you.

An e-mail was received from Coldstream after the packing
event took place - as promised the day was an
outstanding success - please see below for the article
and images from the day.

The e-mail with the scan reads .....
Please find attached the
article that was published in today’s Berwickshire News
12th November 2009 – also a picture of a Coldstream
Guard drawn by one of the kids from Coldstream Primary
School . Just thought you might like it!
The total packed on the day was 140 parcels and they
were all posted on Monday 9th November 2009.
So far we have packed a total of 152 parcels and we
still have more to pack, but we are short of empty shoe
boxes! As soon as we get them we pack them! So still
counting and will keep you both up to date.
Many thanks
Geoff and Annemarie
