OAKS & DERBY DAY 2004 - EPSOM RACECOURSE SURREY
INTRODUCTION
1. By special decree of Her Majesty Queen Victoria, the
Sergeants’ Mess of the Household
Division (The Guardsmen and Troopers seen on State occasions
and Palace Guard) has been granted an enclosure at Epsom
Downs Race Course for private use on Derby Day since 1857.
The site called “The Hill” is situated within the race
circuit opposite the main Grand stand, commanding a
magnificent view of the whole course.
The fenced enclosure will be transformed for the event into
a marquee’d bar and restaurant guarded by members of the 1st
Battalion Coldstream Guards in State Ceremonial uniform.
The Derby day provides the Household Division the
opportunity to entertain other Regiments of the British
Army, however the day preceding Derby Day, The Oaks day,
will be set aside for exclusive corporations to entertain
their own guests.
FACILITIES
2. “The Hill” offers guests the opportunity to dine in a
restaurant or experience a buffet with food
presented by some of the British Army’s finest chefs, and to
entertain in an extremely competitively priced 40ft bar.
There is no necessity to venture outside the complex as
television displays are situated within the bar area
enabling guests to watch all the races. To ease matters
further we even supply book makers on site with their own
