1662-67

In the same year, a party
of approximately 50 Coldstreamers took part in an expedition that was sent to
North America to fight the Dutch. It was led by Captain Robert Holmes, Royal
Navy, who also held a commission in the Coldstream. The force was successful in
capturing New Amsterdam which was the capital of the Dutch settlement, and in
honour of the King’s brother, the Duke of York, Captain Holmes renamed it New
York, as so it remains to this day.
Between 1664 and 1666, the
Coldstream took part in many engagements at sea serving as marines.
