- WITH THE COLDSTREAM GUARDS

If you are interested in becoming a Coldstream Guardsman, and think you have what it takes, take it further!

IMAGE UPDATE: HUNDREDS of images from a recent Look at Life Course are now online, click here to see them.

INTRODUCTION:
Young people, who may be thinking about a career in the Coldstream Guards, generally have little or no idea what Army life is all about. In fact, it is probably true to say that we are one of the least well-understood organisations in the country, by those who haven't served themselves.

We have discovered a way of enhancing the understanding amongst our target audience (fit enthusiastic and motivated individuals) of what we actually do, why and how we do it. This is what we call a "Look at Life".

A Look at Life is a 4 day trip to an Army camp where you can see and participate in some training activities. The  Coldstream Guards Regimental Recruiting Team will take you to the Army Training Regiment at Pirbright in Surrey.

During these four days you will have the opportunity to meet others of your own age who are themselves undergoing training at the camp, from them you will get a clear prospective of how hard and how enjoyable it is.

An intensive programme of activities will be laid on which we hope will leave you in no doubt what a Coldstreamers Life is all about. By the end of the trip you will feel fitter, more confident and much more able.

TRANSPORT:
You will be collected by minibus from the pick up point notified to you by WOII Dave Naylor. Space is limited so please think about what baggage you take. There is no need for a kitchen sink, we already have one.

ACCOMMODATION:
You will be staying in the old accommodation at ATR Pirbright. It is fairly basic, but more than adequate for 4 days. You will however be taken on a tour of the camp and see the exceptional standard of the modern accommodation.

FOOD:
We will provide you with the best food money can buy (welcome back school dinners!). However, you will need a pack lunch for the journey to Pirbright.

PROGRAMME:
The programme, although it may vary occasionally, will always include a visit to a Unit of the Field Army and a visit to London. Due to circumstances beyond our control, sometimes we may have to drop bits and at other times there could be something happening that we think could be of a benefit to add in. The detailed general programme is shown in the scanned images to the left and below.

EQUAL OPPORTUNITIES:
The Army is committed to the continuing development and use of service policies, practices and procedures which respect and value individual's unique contribution, irrespective of their gender, marital status, race, ethnic origin or religious belief, and without reference to social background or sexual orientation. In simple terms, all youngsters are equally welcome to participate regardless of sex, race, colour or creed.

PARENTAL CONSENT:
We must ensure that we have permission from your parents to attend. In particular we want to be satisfied that your parents know where you are and what you will be doing. To this end, you must have the consent form (see scanned images to the left or below) completed and returned to CSgt Naylor before attending, otherwise you will not be permitted to get on the transport.

KIT LIST:
You are strongly advised to take the following list of clothing and personal items:

 - Running Shoes
 - Sports Wear    (Track Suit/Shorts & T-Shirt)

You won't need a lot, there isn't much spare time in the programme for you to be able to spend money, about £20-£25 will be enough.

ALCOHOL:

The Army Training Regiment does not allow alcohol to be consumed anywhere on the premises other than the NAAFI. You will not be permitted in the NAAFI Bar during your stay, therefore NO ALCOHOL will be consumed at all during your trip.

BEHAVIOUR:
We would ask that you comply with simple standards of behaviour. Our staff will do everything possible to make your trip interesting, challenging and enjoyable but they will always be responsible for not only you but all others in the group. In the interests of safety.......
