*An Easter egg is one of a few little surprises that has been placed around the site for those that are willing to look.


EASTER EGG No 1: The ShinyCapstar Logo

The ShinyCapstar Logo has been updated in January 2008, the logo below is a little larger for those wanting to see more of the detail.  After many sleepless nights I decided to create a whole new logo, and my aim was to reflect the versatility of the Coldstream Guards.

The new logo shows the left image from Number 7 Company's Troop, and being an avid lover of Photoshop I tried to make the image 'jump' out of the frame (I hope it works?).  The filmstrip on the floor then shows some qualities of the Coldstream Guards, with (from right to left) Afghanistan (Op Herrick 7), then the famous image of CSM Peter Wright depicting the time when his Victoria Cross was awarded, next is a fantastic image that has been used on the site before of LSgt Henry on his Jungle Warfare Instructors Course, and last but by no means least an image depicting 'Teamwork' and in the words of WO1 (RSM) A Johnson - 'One Team - One Fight'.

After trying my hand at Photoshop I thought 'wouldn't it be good to have an animated logo that had the light bounce off the logo.  Well, I had used Flash very briefly before (the professionals choice for animation), so that was out of the question.  What people didn't (and don't until now) know is that I created each frame painstakingly (some 20+) and then stuck them together in a free gif animator that I downloaded from the net.  It took ages, and I look at it and cringe because to me ................... it wasn't worth it! (I've got my head stuck in Flash at the moment!).

Original (2004 - 2006)


The image above was the first image that represented ShinyCapstar and is still used in some parts of the site.  As the name goes I wanted to portray a 'Shiny Capstar', i.e a Capstar that was shining.  Eventually I stumbled upon the effects that could be used in Photoshop and used the gleam effect.




2006  - 2008










The image above shows the 'slightly' improved 'Shining Capstar' which I decided to place on a black background.  This was the time when most websites were black or had black backgrounds so I 'just wanted to fit in!'.  The images on the right of the logo were from some discs that were given to me by the Regimental Recruiting Team from 7 Company's Troop and the Guards Para Platoon (if I can remember rightly).

The one on the right is WOII (CSM) Dickie Wright (at the time of writing), and the one in the middle is Clive Minshall, these photos are in full colour elsewhere in the site.
