Mortar Update 5th October 2007

The Mortar Platoon begins its deployment today with the first 14 members flying to theatre. The grouping that was going south to work with the Household Cavalry has been re-tasked at the last minute and will now be going to support the Danish Battle Group who are employed as Battle Group Centre - the role the Battalion was originally to take. This group will be commanded by the Mortar Platoon Commander, Captain Clive. The remaining 10 members of this group will be deploying nearer the middle of the month and will also be supporting the Danish Battle Group. This should make for a busy and interesting start to the tour for us, we are due at some point to be re-tasked back to the Household Cavalry, wait out for further details!!

The Postal address for those going to the Danish will be posted as soon as I have the information.

The other half of the Platoon will be deploying at the middle of the month and will be heading to support 40 Commando Royal Marines, they will be going to Now Zad and Kajaki. This group will be split into two sections; one commanded by Sgt Steele, the other by LSgt Lees. They will have a very busy time during the initial deployment as the Marines have already taken over and are eagerly awaiting their arrival. Sgt Steele will be updating this site on behalf of those going to work with the Marines.

The postal address for those going to the Marines is:

Number Rank Name
Coldstream Guards Mortars
40 Cdo RM
BFPO 792

I am very proud of all of the hard work that the Platoon have put into their training over the last year. I have every confidence that they will perform to the highest standard, in keeping with the finest traditions of the regiment.

I apologise that there is not a great deal of detail in this initial briefing, however it is best only to post the facts and not the speculations. As soon as the various elements arrive and get settled in to their various roles we will keep you updated at the first opportunity.
