OP Herrick 7 (Afghanistan) UPDATE

RIGHT FLANK PLATOON Sitrep as at 28 Sep 07 (Archive)

Below is some information received from Sgt Baines who is one of many Coldstreamers serving with the Right Flank Company of the 1st Battalion Scots Guards.

The Coldstream Guards Platoon promise to keep us up to date with images and information when and where possible, but you can also view the Scots Guards ArmyNet Site for more info.

LATEST NEWS: Lt Charles Malet, was recently wounded by indirect fire on 2nd September. He is now back in the UK on sick leave and should make a full recovery.

Latest message from The Right Flank Platoon:

‘Sorry that information about the Coldstreamers out here has been sparse, it’s just that we have hardly had our feet on the ground since we formed up in Windsor and travelled over to Munster, Germany. We were only there a week and then kit was packed again to be shipped off to Batus, Canada, where we were part of the 1 Lancs Battle Group Exercise.

After Canada (and in the same month), we were travelling back to Germany again for an exercise to Sennelager.

We were then fortunate to have a couple of days rest, followed by a surprise 36hour exercise where we were picked up by Chinook flown to an “Attack & Rescue”, and then left to tab 26km on foot before we could be picked up!

The Right Flank Company then stopped off in the UK for some light Training in Thetford, Salisbury and Wales on more Warrior orientated exercises.

Having just under a months leave we then deployed to Afghanistan on the 16th of August, where we had a small stay at Kandahar to pick up and prepare our vehicles. This was then followed by a long drive by convoy to Camp Bastian. Whilst on this journey we had a few interesting incidents, but luckily we sustained no injuries.

We arrived at Camp Bastion and had some planning and preparation ready for our first Operation. This is where Mr Malet sustained his injury.

As I write this note we are just about to deploy on our second operation and we are all having the time of our lives! Unfortunately, we did not stay as a platoon, but all is good anyway.

“Honi Soit”

Sgt Baines
