SITREP

This is just a very quick update as I wait for a helicopter to take me on R and R. Firstly, I hope you all had a great Christmas at home. Despite the very cold weather that has descended upon Helmand this week, we have all managed to stay pretty cheerful. Christmas Day was another working day for virtually everyone, with the pace of life not slowing at all. Despite that, everyone seemed to get through the day with a smile on their face.

Much of that was down to our friends and family back in UK, along with the Coldstream Association and a lady from Cornwall named Debbie, who have sent us hundreds of parcels over the last month, containing everything a young soldier could want in Afghanistan. This has been a tremendous boost for everyone’s morale and I would like to say a huge thank you on behalf of everyone in the Battalion for your generosity and support.

All of the Coldstreamers in Lashkar Gah gathered at 1000 hrs in Coldstream Corner for coffee and cake and a good old Coldstream chinwag. Afterwards, was the traditional service of Christmas Dinner, although for the first time I can remember, the Officers and Seniors outnumbered the Junior Ranks, being as this is a camp full of Staff Officers.

A number of people received special Christmas presents on the 25th, including three LCpls who were promoted to LSgt and three Gdsm who were promoted to LCpl. Some of them were promoted by voicemail which has to be a first for the Regiment. I will announce their names on the next update, just so I can be certain that they have actually picked up their voice mail messages first!

Most people escaped from their place of work for a few minutes to open their cards and parcels and spend a few quiet moments with their thoughts. Other than that, the Op HERRICK 7 bandwagon rolls on and ever closer towards April. We have more visibility of our return dates now, but I will wait until January before I publish them just to ensure that we post the most up to date and accurate details.

Anyway, that is all on this very, very quick update as I head off to catch my helicopter. Hopefully, you should find last updates missing photos at the bottom of this page along with a couple of Christmas snaps. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you all. Everyone here is in good nick and doing great work. Chins up everywhere.
