» Unit Welfare Office
To ensure a high quality and constant level of support the UWO
staff, all attend the "Unit Welfare Office Training" course at
Bristol University. This is an informative and intensive
two-part course that prepares staff for the task of providing a
responsive and confidential service to all our soldiers and
their families.
» Welfare Team Aim - Your welfare is
our concern
The 1st Bn Coldstream Guards Welfare Team Aim
To provide a professional, friendly and supportive welfare
service for all family members, using every available welfare
agency, both military and civilian. To maintain and manage
various methods of communication, providing relevant up to date
factual information throughout any and all Coldstream Guard
deployments and exercises.
» Out Of Hours
There is an answering machine available at our main office
number (01753 623855) for when the staff are out of the office
should you wish to leave a message. If you require assistance
from the Welfare Staff out of hours you may contact us by
phoning the 24hr duty mobile number (number available on answer
message). It must be stressed that the mobile number is for
emergences only, but If the problem cannot wait until the
next working day or you need immediate action then please do not
hesitate to call the number. We are only a phone call away. I
must point out that there could be occasions when we cannot
answer the mobile phone, and you feel that your problem deserves
immediate attention then please contact the guardroom on 01753
755556. If they cannot help directly they will call the duty
officer if the Duty UWO cannot be contacted.
» Confidentiality
As a department we deal a lot in confidential matters.
What does this mean?
The effectiveness of the Welfare Office is directly related to
the trust in which it is held by those who may have to use it.
What you tell us is in the strictest confidence. We won't tell
anyone what is discussed unless you want us to and then only to
a limited audience of those individuals that can directly help
in your matter.
» Exceptions To The Rule
There are of course, times when confidentiality may have to be
broken because of the requirements of the law and the
exceptional needs of the Armed Forces. These are:
• When there is risk of harm to you or others.
• If there is or likely to be a serious breach of National
Security.
• To prevent a serious criminal act.
• If there is a serious contravention of Military Law.
• If a soldier is no longer able to carry out his or her duty.
The list above is only some of the occasions in which we will
break your confidentiality; however, I must point out that you
would expect us to break the confidentially code if any one of
the topics listed above where presented to this department.
