The New Welfare Officer |

Well, that didn't take long did it!
Captain Rick Paterson (who was recently commissioned
from some pen pushing job in Horse Guards) took over the
post of the Battalion Welfare Officer (formerly Families
Officer) about 8 months ago from Captain Stuart Beattie
(who was posted away from Battalion to learn how to make
Scottish Tea). Rather than sitting in the
background and learning how to play golf, he has gripped
the job by the horns and led from the front (it should
be noted that this was literally very easy to do due to
the excellent team he has!)
Now sitting in the chair, he regularly finds the
time to get his name plastered in the local press -
all for the benefit of the community, so well done
that man! |

before being shipped out to join the shiny 1st in
Germany (Krefeld) and then back to Chelsea for a stint
of Public Duties and the Troop (the last one with the
Lee Enfield Rifle). The second shows 1 coy, 1st Bat at
Chelsea Barracks in 1959 before moving to Lydd in Kent.
Where are they now I wonder? Especially Barry Rowlands

your site for it?
Also pictures I found from my Germany days in
Fallingbostel back in 1978 - 80 with the 1st Battalion,
top left picture is of a chap called Dave Smith who was
my section commander we used to call him (Skin), which

mills & Me, picture top right is of Brad Mills, Pete
Young, Phillips, Lancaster, Dale Brunt which I'm still
in touch with today, Lenny Makepiece, Geordie Wigan (BAM

My Grandfather -
John Collier |
I
thought the attached may be of some interest.
I joined the Coldstream as my Grandfather, Samuel Gall
was one of the co-founders of the Hull branch of the
O.C.A.
He served in the 3rd Battalion in South Africa during
the Boar War as Private 7345.
His service record is attached.
The first photo shows him on his arrival in South
Africa. The second shows him on his return home.
He was emaciated, starving and issued with the old
uniform that is shown. According to my Grandmother he
was riddled with fleas and lice and wasn't allowed in
the house until he had removed the uniform which she
immediately burnt.
He served many years in the Hull City Police rising to
Chief Inspector.
Many thanks to John Collier |

Corporal G S
Butler's squad |
Hello
ShinyCapstar,
The
first photo was taken at Caterham in July 1925 and shows
Corporal G S Butler's squad. I don't know the names of
any of the Guardsmen apart from my Dad, G E Gaunt, who
is 2nd from the left on the back row. I assume Corporal
Butler is sat in the middle. The photo was taken during
Dad's initial training, he had joined the Coldstream
Guards in Leeds the previous April.
The second photo shows the Guard leaving Kasr-el-Nil
Barracks to do Guard Duty at
Bab-el
Hadid in Egypt. It was probably taken in 1932/33. Again,
I'm afraid that I don't know the names except that of my
Dad, the Sergeant at the rear of the Guard Party.
Dad served in the the Guards until 1941 when he was
promoted to RSM in Airborne Forces.
I hope you like the photos. Regards - Alan Gaunt. |

The following
images have been submitted by Mr Gerry Taylor
Hi Everyone, just a couple of pics you may like for the
site? The first is me in 1959. This was used in a Poster
advert for "JOIN THE MODERN ARMY". The second is me OUTSIDE
Buck House, (thats me nearest the camera) this was taken
just before the infamous Gdsn Footer got us put behind the
railings. Ah, Happy Days!
Anyone remember me?

The other day
while travelling from Baghdad to Basrah a group of four
ex Coldstreamers all working for two
separate
private security companies happened to be in the same
place at the same time and this was an ideal photo
opportunity.
In 1990 these four men were all in the Recce Platoon 1st
Bn and on the 1st May 2005 they all happened to be in
camp Scannia, US army logistic base.
All four men would be more than pleased to see this
photo on ShinyCapstar.
