REGIMENTAL DINNER
Farewell Dinner to WOII (DMaj) S Vine & WOII (CSM) P Dales
The 6th of November 2004 saw the
Sergeants Mess hold a Regimental Dinner to say farewell in true
'Coldstream Fashion' to the above members of the Battalion.
Various photographs from the dinner are shown below, hold your
mouse over (some of) the images for more information.
You had to be there!
As with normal tradition, the Corps of Drums play at each
Regimental Dinner (when duties permit), tonight was to be no
exception. But, it was to be with a difference.
Just as the Corps of Drums were to march on, a 'lone drummer'
marched into the Sgts Mess, in front of over 100 people and
pulled his feet in. The drummer then started to play his
side drum, the whole mess was in silence - a nice touch you
might think, as one of the people leaving was indeed the Drum
Major.
As he played, he suddenly caught one of his 'sticks' on the side
of his drum and it fell to the floor - again the mess fell
silent. The Drum Major (Vine) looked on with dismay and
you could feel for the poor drummer, to fail in his duties in
front of the whole mess was a 'nightmare'.
The drummer looked to the floor, gazing upon the stick rolling
away from him and then to everyone starring back at him - again
he looked to the floor. From where I was stood i'm sure a
tear was forming in his eye (amongst others looking on).
The drummer reached up to his head and removed his Bearskin,
then, amongst the silence came "Dum, Dum Dummm" the hamlet theme
tune! The drummer put his hand into his pocket pulled out
a cigar and lit it! It was planned, a rapturous applause
broke - which followed with the Corps marching in lead by the
'New' Drum Major - Drum Major Taylor, with a little 'cheesy
grin' on his face . . . . . nice one Tony!!
As the Corps kicked into overdrive, waiters came from the
darkness and handed maracas and tambourines to the top table to
join in (see images above).
