2004
December saw the usual clash of the
titans in the annual Officers Vs Sergeants Mess Festive Match.
The morning broke early this December morning with a little
frost and a wind chill factor that could have sent Eskimos into
hiding!
The match was planned, referees and linesmen were organised,
strips were washed - the only thing that stood in the way of the
match was the Battalion Marquee! This was still erected
from the Christmas ball, which had finished hours before (well
about 48), before.
The Marquee Team - a small bunch of dedicated men, had set to
work early that morning and had managed to pull everything off
the pitch just as the Officers Mess Team walked onto the pitch.
But, there was no sign of the Sergeants Mess Team!
Boom, Boom - Bang, Tush (that was the sound of the Corps of
Drums by the way!).
Marching onto the pitch, led by the Corps of Drums came the
Sergeants Mess. The Officers Mess could do nothing but
look on in amazement, and confusion - it looked as though they
hadn't yet even filled their team!
After a bit of shirt throwing and voiced opinions, teams were
filled and the match was about to start - the coin was tossed.
The game was on, and it looked as though it was going to be a
'bit of a battle'.
Images from the game are shown below:
Goal!
The first goal goes to the Sergeants Mess (well done Dougy).
Then it's time for a quick break, mince pies for the Officers -
port for the 'big boys'!
Then a climatic moment, a penalty is awarded to the Officers
Mess, he shoots - and Jacko 'dive the wrong way' Jackson
did the best he could!
The match ends - closer than some of us thought!
4 - 2 to the Sergeants Mess (another victorious year!!!)
Now the awards for the best face pulled in a football match.
In THIRD place, goes to 'Mask' the AQMS - good effort (we know
........ you were trying for the ball!)
SECOND place goes to the MTWO (Decker), giving his all in one of
only a few legitimate throw-ins of the game,
FIRST PLACE has got to go to the RP SGT (Fen), without doubt.
I think the stance gave him his victory!
As a consolation prize, Capt Lloyd Owen takes the most 'laid
back goalie' of the year award.
