St Georges Day Pageant

Info displayed on the "Sun On-Line Website"

The Tug of War Competition

The day started with an Inter-Company Tug of War Competition, many teams were entered into the event and some teams entered through no training at all.  Some of the teams even (no names mentioned) spent the night prior entertaining and went straight into the competition with little or no sleep.

Sgt Bennett and all his staff should be congratulated on a very well organised and well run event.

Below are a few pictures from the event, leading up to images from the final.

The final saw two teams meeting for the prize of
TUG OF WAR CHAMPIONS - 2004

These were SP Coy and the Sgts Mess Team.

A well fought event, but there could only be one winner,

SP Company.

SP Coy were also crowned winners of the previous events in the week (Potted Sports and Military Skills).

The Story of St George

Many are unfamiliar with the story of St George, so for those and those alone here is the story of St George (as told on the 23rd of April 2004).

A Long time ago in ages gone by, there was a fair damsel. Pretty in all her splendour she often took it upon herself to walk around the fields so green helping others in her path.

(at this point in the story out popped "Knocker" dancing along to the catchy song from Shania Twain "I feel like a woman".

He then decided to walk around the rear of the crowd grabbing many of the unsuspecting onlookers and give them a very sloppy kiss!)

On this day, a fire-breathing dragon lay in his lair, and decided to go and look for his next juicy meal!

After the Dragon returns back to his lair, the Damsel decides that she needs a little more make up on, just to make herself a little presentable in case of a passing Knight (really!)

Ah, but wait ................ the Damsel has been spied upon!

The Fire-breathing dragon, using all it's cunning and stealth manages to capture the Damsel and take her off to it's cave.

Heeeeeellllllpppppppp .............she cries, but what is that in the distance, is it a hero to the rescue?

(The Sarnt Major enters on horse-back to the sound of "The Boys are Back in Town" by Thin Lizzy), the crowd go wild!

The Knight uses all his strength and agility, fire scorches his tunic and many a graze appears on his armour.

Eventually after much scuffling (to the theme of Rocky), the Knight defeats the Dragon.

Triumphant in his quest, St George turns to his prize.............

How lucky he must feel, with such a prize it must mean that Wedding Bells are not to far around the corner.

Pageant over, all return to take a bow to the crazed and thoroughly impressed crowd.

All agreed that the Pageant, was a tremendous success.
There were many children and guests from the local schools invited to attend and it looked like all found it truly enjoyable. WOII (Trg WO) should be congratulated on the success of this event, one that many will talk about for years to come.

What was said?

Read below (text taken from the site)

"TOMORROW is St George’s Day and we are calling on YOU to prove to the rest of the world how proud we are to be English.
We KNOW ours is a great country, it’s time to say so. Other nations make a big fuss about their big days we can show them how it’s done.

We want EVERYONE to take part. Below are the Saints and Sinners, those joining in and killjoys who are not. And if you need ideas on how to party, we tell you how other countries make the most of their special days.

The dragon-slaying legend is being staged by the COLDSTREAM GUARDS. Regimental Sergeant Major Karl Cheesbrough, of the 1st Battalion, will play our patron saint and gallop to rescue a damsel from a firebreathing beast in Aldershot, Hants. "
