TRAINING
CONTINUES
FOR OP HERRICK

Public order training including petrol bomb inoculation shown above and below.

DRIVER TRAINING

Driver Training at Aldershot Training Area

In preparation for Operation HERRICK all drivers (from all the companies not just the Transport Platoon) undergo driver training. This includes familiarisation training on the new Vector pictured above, left and below. The training included cross country driving at Aldershot Training Area. The skills that these drivers gain here will be vital in theatre.

ShinyCapstar YouTube Account!
NEW to ShinyCapstar - our very own YouTube Channel - click here to view!
Obviously, without not trying to be outdone with all the technological advances, ShinyCapstar has it's own 'YouTube' account for any Coldstream Videos that have been created.  If you haven't already seen the Regimental Recruiting DVD you can watch it online on our 'YouTube' account (it's brilliant!), all this plus clips from recent events and functions, plus loads more to come! (you can also subscribe to the YouTube account to be told when new videos are added) - the videos on the YouTube Account have had over 10,000 views since Oct 06, that is outstanding so more videos will be added on a regular basis.

At the time of going to press, the ShinyCapstar Channel has the following videos, with more to come:

The Regimental Recruiting Video.
The Coldstream Guards Op Telic Fun Run.
I'm a Coldstreamer's Wife, Get me out of Here weekend.
Videos from the last Regimental Association Day.
A recent news video from Exercise African Thorn.

Plus lots more on the site and more due to be added!

If you have a video that you'd like to appear on our channel, send it to us and we'll see if it's suitable to hold pride and place on 'THE' Coldstream Video Channel!

QUEENS BIRTHDAY PARADE
16 JUNE 2007
NUMBER 7 COMPANY

It was the turn of Number 7 Company to provide the Escort for the Queens Birthday Parade 2007. 2Lt Mills (Gap Year Officer) had the gratifying role as the Ensign. Together with the usual personalities from Number 7 Company WO1 Pete Carr performed the duties of the Regimental Sergeant Major fulfilling a life long ambition. WO2 Dave Waller performed the duties of the Senior Sergeant.

The Battalion played its part by providing 10 half companies of street liners. They took a week out from their OP HERRICK preparation and the transition from green to red was seamless. The Battalion deployed on exercise the following week.

LCPL DOBSON VC
Memorial Unveiled at High Spen, Gateshead
8 July 2007

During World War 1 the soldiers of High Spen were some of the most decorated in the country giving the village the epithet of “Village of Heroes”. Two High Spen residents who survived WW1 were awarded the Victoria Cross for Bravery, unique event for a village of this, when only 16 VCs were awarded across the country.

Lance Corporal Frederick William Dobson of the Coldstream Guards and Private Thomas Young of the DLI, were honoured for saving lives, as between them they saved the lives of 10 injured men, going out onto the battlefield to get them time after time.

Amongst others the dedication service was represented by the Coldstream Guards with WO1 P Downes, WO2 N Hicks, WO2 D Roffey, Coldstream Guard recruits from Catterick, Sgt Bumby and LCpl Bell from ACIO Sunderland, standard bearers from the Middlesbrough and Ashington Branch, Amble ACF and Gdsm Graves (a distant relative of LCpl Dobson VC).

TRADES & SPECIALISTS
IN THE
COLDSTREAM GUARDS

Storeman

In order to complete the wide range of tasks given to the infantry and be able to operate in a host of different environments, Battalions have a large amount of specialist and valuable equipment. As a storeman you would be required to assist with the management and accounting of this equipment. Storemen are required to be trustworthy and reliable.
You can become a storeman in the Coldstream Guards. There are storemen employed in each of the Company Stores as well as the Quartermasters Department. All storeman have attended the All Arms Storeman Course at the Defence College of Logistics at Deepcut. All storemen are trained in IT enabling them to use the logistics information systems.

The majority of those working in the various stores have CAT C licences coupled with HAZMAT qualifications and forklift operators licences. There are further opportunities to attend specialist courses at the Defence College of Logistics at Deepcut to manage unit spares, ammunition and rations.
