PTE GEORGE STRONG, VC.
George Strong was born in Yeovil, Somerset, in about
1833. He enlisted into the Coldstream Guards on 27th
November 1854 at Plymouth.
He served in the Crimea with the 1st Battalion and was
present at Sevastopol.
He was awarded the Victoria Cross for gallantry during
trench operations between 25th-30th September 1855. He
was presented with his medal by Queen Victoria at the
first VC Investiture in Hyde Park on 26th June, 1857.
He was discharged on 29th November, 1864, as a Private
having received no promotion during his service. He died
at Sherston Magna, Somerset, on 20th August, 1888.
As well as the VC, he also received the Crimea medal
with one clasp, and the Turkish Crimea Medal. They were
bought by Lieutenant E.G.Christie-Miller in April 1907
and presented to the Regiment.

For having, when on duty in the trenches in the month of
September 1855, removed a live shell from the place it
had fallen.
